Freedom of Expression
As complicated as some of this readings may be, it's very refreshing to realize that this group of people have such an important role in what we now know architecture to be. Architecture has remained without style and without a fixed datum, architecture has now bridge the gaps between multiple industries and it continues to do so with exploration of new materials, technologies and building techniques. "Design is what keeps architecture from slipping into a cloud of heterogeneity", we've become chameleons and have gone from Master Builders to jack of all trades master of none.
The Doppler effect suggest of all the conditions architecture has evolved to overtake new challenges that continue to emerge and architects continue to search for their own place within architecture. This so call freedom is indebted to theory!! the freedom to be able to pursue any of the infinite connections to humanity architecture theorist have established between the role of the "Architect" and everything else. It's also as if we have transcended from "designing buildings" to a role of a director/coordinator of everything that is design. We are free from the painstaking hours of copying over and over again the techniques that would be passed down to you generation after generation that was the mentor-ship based professions of the old day, or even to work so hard to make a name for yourself when at the end of the day your design would be labeled a specific style "international, modern, art deco...." that some other guy would take credit for. And don't just owe it theory, we owe it to specific key figures like Peter Eisenman, Colin Rowe and Manfredo Tafuri who without knowing liberated architecture from it's shackles of a fixed entity.

I agree that it is better that we now have the ability to create our own brand, but then we get starchitects that use this to their advantage and create the style of Ghery or Hadid. Yet what tends to be the constant it the need for a brand. the universe abhors a vacuum and people like to know what they are getting. Therefore one might could argue that in "liberat(ing) architecture from it's shackles" we have created a divide in which architects either create their own brand and become starchitects or they fall into the zone of designing buildings in a mixture of brands from the past.
