The Nature of Poze
As we continue with our project in Haiti, it has become evident
that certain scales and materials are being thought of as appropriate for the
building. We have started to get feedback on our own project that it does not
seem to be fitting of the context. A reason for this may be the lack of CMU and
brick used or it may be because we chose to incorporate glazing into the
facades.
Every move we have made has been directly related to the site
and the topography, the form of our building specifically plays into the nature
of the site. However, there is this fine line between what the people of Haiti
are comfortable with and how they may start building in the future. As a group,
we never said that we were only going to design a building that the Haitians
would be 100% comfortable in.
It will be interesting to see where this project goes during
the end of the semester. I do think some work has to be done on our approach of
the envelope and context, but the form of the project has always responded to
the nature.
