When reading about the studies that Venturi and Brown conducted over their time observing the Vegas strip, I couldn’t help but to lean heavily to one side. When thinking about the extremes such as a building designed to look like a car yet many years later ends up selling boats. What it ultimately boils down to is your stance on the idea of “form follows function”. Some people strongly believe that this is the best way to approach design. I tend to lean to the other side because I believe there are a lot more complicated ideals that factor into the form and can also reinforce function. Though I do understand the argument sometimes when it comes to designing ducks over sheds, I think in this day and age spaces being able to be easily adaptable present more opportunity and less cost overall.
