Car is still King
“Development has indeed been decentralizing away from
central cities, it also has been recentralizing around new and existing
suburban centers, and becoming more sustainable in the process”
This statement describes where my new home will be after
graduation in May. I am not sad about it. I am moving to Huntersville, NC a
suburb north of Charlotte. This location is perfect for me, I am not per say an
“urbanite” I like going for the day but would like to return to a little more
personal space in the evenings. Charlotte is a fairly green city with public
parks and greenspaces left and right so this is a city I don’t feel as
uncomfortable in as others I have tried in the past but living outside of the
city suits me well. These new suburban centers have a lot to offer to their residents
in the manner of shear convenience. The availability of places for your everyday
errands, (grocery stores, post office, gyms, gas stations, drug stores…etc) are
all within reach. The one thing that still bothers me is that I still have to
drive. It is one 5 minute trip there and then you walk everywhere else. These
types of developments all around the area are making living outside of the city
proper an easy place to live. Nonetheless the car is still king in the Charlotte
area.
