shockitecture

Sometimes the architecture world needs to be put in check.  During the 1960’s when modernism was focusing on aesthetics and radical groups like Archigram were imagining a pro-consumerist technology focused world Architecture and architectural theory was really about objects.

what the hell Archigram?

In response to Archigram’s response to modernism, Archizoom & Superstudios’ satirical work raised critical questions, using shock to make people question the popular architecture approaches and trains of thought.  Most importantly, it cast a critical eye on the depth and relevance of “innovation” in the current practice.

How is that relevant to today?  When we begin to fetishize sustainability like architectural form and technology have been historically fetishized, we lose relevance.  If we cannot be bothered to question our own work, maybe the architectural world needs to be made fun of.

not so subtle satire of Mies
