“we need to view the fragility
of the planet and its resources as an opportunity for speculative design
innovations rather than as a form of technical legitimation for promoting conventional
solutions.”
This is one of the main
concerns when sustainability is talked about today. The term sustainability is
something that has become kind of common place in which almost all architects
have mention to it. The problems however is that in practice a lot of the time
the concern is more focused on receiving some type of LEED status and having
the name of a green building. This doesn’t work. This truly benefits nothing.
Sustainability is a vague word that covers a very large and complicated scope
and problem. It is not something that can be done by simply adding active
systems to a building. It is a much broader thing. It is something that should encompass;
the building, the landscape, the context, the region, the people, the culture. We need to try and tackle this problem not
through LEED status and such but through creating new, innovative solutions
that will help define a new era.
