Take it in stride
Take it in stride
We are in this situation because of sudden change.
“The climate
has changed before humans, and in most cases scientists know why. In all cases
we see the same association between CO2 levels and global
temperatures. And past examples of rapid carbon emissions (just like
today) were generally highly destructive to life on Earth.”
Therefor I think we should not respond in kind. Abrupt change to society can be just as
dangerous as abrupt CO2 emissions so I think we should just take it
in stride and figure it out as we go. Architecture is a good medium to start this trend because it is a slower
field of work but if we go out and think we are going to change the world over
night or if the governments try to change the world overnight there will be
societal upheaval. Technology follows a
rule called Moore’s Law that essentially states that technology will increase
at an exponential rate and if we assume this trend can continue into other
fields of science then as time goes on we can expect technology to help decrees
the energy and climate issues. At that
time we as architects should be willing to take our knowledge as creative
critical thinkers and help adapt these new technologies into our designs to
slowly change our social environment.
