What Isn't Junkspace?
What isn’t junkspace? The further you get into Rem Koolhaas’
article, the more junkspace blends together. The article is basically a run on
sentence that is enjoyable to read even if you disagree. But after making it
halfway, you have to wonder: what isn’t junkspace? Ballrooms, bathrooms, airports,
corridors are all considered junkspace. Seating arrangements and air conditioning
turn a room into junkspace. The problem seems almost unavoidable. And even
worse, junkspace is growing. Junkspace is… are we junkspace? Remmy even thinks
mankind is at risk of becoming junkspace. So where does it end? Is junkspace a
culture problem? An architecture problem? And when will junkspace overtake the
entire world, even natural settings? Or… maybe it’s not as big of an issue. This
so called junkspace is a part of modern society. Malls, vacant buildings and
massive conference centers create the world we live in. It’s unreasonable to
assume every single space must work perfectly. So to junkspace, I say live and
let live.
