Chicken or the Egg?
What comes first? The chicken or the egg? I have always been a believer that the interiors of the building was the first and foremost important component of the building. That the interior had the ability to influence its users experience while also supporting sustainable practices and achieving energy efficiencies. But - this though has drastically changed since coming into my second and third year of graduate school. The combination of studio classes, study of contemporary architecture through history courses and most impactful my digital ecologies courses have taught me the true ability of a buildings envelope. I no longer see the skin of a building to be an aesthetic choice nor the simple answer to thermal problems. I see it as a solution for a multitude of design challenges from energy efficiencies to indoor air quality - all which effect the users experience so much more than a 2015 green wall would (I laugh as i write 2015 because this was when I was pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Architecture with a Sustainability minor and how far sustainability has come since).
The notorious 'green wall'. Bringing us first hand interior sustainability tough plastic plants (most of the time).
