Supplemental design strategies

This week we have transitioned from our previous topic “The Politics of Architecture and the City” to Sustainability, Technology, and Landscape. In Inaki Ábalos’ “Thermodynamic Beauty” he discusses how architecture can be created by focusing on the biotechnical aspect of architecture instead of the tectonic.
In my personal opinion I feel that this should not be the main focus an architect has when designing a building. Focusing on the thermodynamics of space seems to neglect the “human” element of the space. The architect is neglecting the wants and needs of the people he/she is designing for as well as neglecting the building’s relationship to place, its aesthetic appearance, and a whole bunch of other proven sustainable practices. This way of thinking should be another tool in an architect’s toolbox, not the sole strategy used when designing a building.
