evolving architecture
As Mockbee talks about so well in his writings I too believe that architecture must connect to the community to bring about social justice. If the users of space do not have a say or role in the creation of the build environment can it or will it be ‘theris’? Will the architecture be shaped by a domain who understand their needs and offers equity thought design? I believe that where we are in the world today with all of the social injustices now is the time to rethink how we approach architecture. Too many projects around us are popping up through the need of commodity and end up leaving the user to the side. These spaces end up becoming junkspace in a few years time and are truly unsustainable. If we were to take a grassroots approach early on in our design processes and involve the end users I know we can reach more sustainable and socially just architecture a lot faster.
