Walking down the sidewalk hand in hand.
Minimizing site invasiveness, utilizing local material, and harnessing the sun for solar use are all ways to begin to achieve sustainable design. I believe that sustainability should be a key focus in our designs, but I do not believe that it should be the driving focus in our every day project that we do. I feel like today it is very popular to be “green”. I feel that this is an extremely important factor, but it’s just that… a factor. One of many that you will face as the project runs its course. All buildings can be sustainable in their own way, but I do not feel that they should necessarily have to share the same sustainable characteristics across the board. There will be times when a material that is used maybe is not local, but it is the correct fit for the project. The material also may not be as eco friendly as another, but again, it is the correct fit for the project. I feel like this is one of those topics where a happy medium should and can be found and applied. There is a way for sustainability and beautiful architecture to live happily together.
