Do we have to pick a side?
Critical regionalism is an approach to architecture that emphasizes the importance of local culture, materials, and traditions. It seeks to create buildings that are rooted in their context while also responding to contemporary needs. Modernity style, on the other hand, is characterized by its emphasis on functionalism, minimalism, and technological innovation. In class, we were told that these two styles are actually connected even though seem at odds with each other, which is not something that is spoken about frequently. The biggest reason being that they both respond to their time and place. I personally value characteristics from both and like finding a balance of both in my designs.
