Reagan ruined everything part 3573495349

Reagan ruined everything. He destroyed affordable college prices, and affordable housing, and the list continues. Now according to McLeod, Reagan ruined architecture. While it makes sense that Postmodernism would thrive during his time where they didn't care about social movements much like he didn't care about women or minorities, that really sucks. I like some post-modern approaches and designs, much like some modern architecture, but this reading put a sour taste in my mouth. I'm not at all convinced that modern vs post-modern architecture should equate to right vs left, much like it seems to in this article.

Reagan is why we are dealing with many of the issues we've been discussing in this class. Homelessness and unaffordable housing? Yep, Reagan helped create that by axing social programs and mental healthcare funding. Shrinking middle class? Reagan.

Let's not let him ruin architecture. As future architects, let's go about our projects with whatever design aesthetics we please. But let's also keep society in mind and not ignore the people needing the most help while designing elegant architecture for the ultra-wealthy.
