decisions, decisions
Social Justice can umbrella over many different architectural topics but I think the most important one in our field comes down to the client vs the architect. What does an architect do when faced with a request from the client that completely disregards the architects moral compass.
What I think this boils down to is who are we designing for? Are we designing for the client or the public? This may be an age old question in the realm of architecture but as politics and social issues are brought to light more than ever before, it is becoming more evident than ever before. People have opposing political views, thats just life, and its in-escape-able. In my humble opinion, we, as architects, are designers for the public or the people using that building. We should not fold to client opinions that exclude part of that group no matter how small it is. It may lose us money but living with the idea that you designed a building that went blatantly against your human morals just sounds worse to me than some cash.
