More Than Envelope
"Architect’s traditional role as visionaries and ideologists has become redundant as the sheer speed of
changes overtakes architects’ capacity to represent politics ideologically." -Alejandro Zaera
Zaera mentions that the building and design strategy for any architecture is more complicated than in years
past, due to new forms of technology, research, and the speed at which the industry changes. With all that in
mind, his focus on the building envelope is important, but we must also consider the importance of all the
changes within architecture. That includes the interior, envelope, and public space/landscaping of the exterior.
All are important when considering the changes that the field of architecture undergoes annually and only
considering the envelope as a way to undergo these changes would be detrimental to architecture.
