unpromted

This week's blog post will feature a section of notes taken in class. Take them as they are written and nothing more. no games, just thoughts of an architecture student trying to find my place in a world...which I am learning everyday is infinitely more meaningful/substantial/powerful/pure/permanent/beautiful/natural/justified than myself.

HUMANS VS. NON-HUMANS                                    CULTURE VS. SCIENCE

Humans are a little high on themselves…who are we to assume that it is a fair argument to say “humans vs. non-humans”.

“non-humans” is a far more biologically, and ecologically diverse spectrum than “humans”. In fact, I would bet that the overlapping and natural dependencies between species (living and non-living) is far more complex and crucial to our planet’s health that we are able to comprehend with our tiny human brains.

Humans and human alone are the single most responsible species for the manifestation of violence on planet earth….At what point did ‘we’ decide that humans area capable of caring for the rock we inhabit.

“rights”….Human rights..non-human rights….all defined by HUMANS.  Express your right to a tiger in the jungle, you’ll be eaten. That is real hierarchy.

Modern technologies are full of problems. In turn, our projects become a series of problem-solving opportunities. Great right? Sounds like architecture school…But they are problems we have created for ourselves. Problems with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing are all problems that have been tee’d up by the IBC for developers to swig away at with not a single thought of anything beyond the mess of a project created between the pages of a book.

Not cool man, not cool.

  1. I love the AwkwardYeti !! haha great post. Growing up my dad always told me that everything was alive and interconnected (he's a physicist) but that somehow we as humans seem to keep screwing up the balance. He is also a very positive person so he always encouraged me to keep trying to make things better. I think that's why I am more attracted to holistic approaches in design rather than specific ones... Just a note about me :) !
