I laughed, I cried, It moved me Bob

But architecture is as much a physical construct as it is a social or political one and to understand architecture as a mere representation of the political is as problematic as to declare architecture entirely ruled by natural laws."

“What do we mean when we speak of architectural quality? Quality to me is when a building moves me.” --Zumthor

In order to have quality, a building must provoke feelings. It must speak to the social, political, and physical nature of a place. To me, projects are inspiring when you get a sense that the architect took the time to understand the site and the user. Architecture firms are few and far between that place emphasis on research. The ones that do understand Zumthor's notion of a building moving him. Spending time at a site or speaking to residents of the area, studying peoples movements and behaviors, studying demographics of a place. All these are lost in the current practices of architecture. We focus on the physical and forget that this place is not just a thing, but an object housing living breathing life.

So where does the convergence fall between the physical, the social, and the political? What can architects do to create a place for both technology and human existence?
