It's the corporations man, there taking over
One of the issues we have today is housing shortages in urban areas. Usually it is not due to the fact there are no housing options in a city but who owns them and how they are filled. Recently I read an article talking about how in New Orleans there is a huge lack of housing options. Affordability is one of the biggest reasons. Gentrification takes over an area and rent and property prices skyrocket. Now corporations come in and buy up whole neighborhoods and rent out the houses to visitors. New Orleans specifically has been taken over by the AirBNB craze. The city is a huge tourist destination, so it is no surprise AirBNB has a large amount of properties you can rent, but the problem is now people who actually need a home there can not only afford them because corporations can out bid without thinking about it. They turn around and rent them home to visitors and make more and more money while overstepping the actual residents of the area.
So picture this, there is a huge housing shortage for the people who live in New Orleans. Now look at the map above. Each dot on the map is an AirBNB…..
