Is Method Hot?
I find it interesting that Somol and Whiting use DeNiro's method acting as a analog for Hot architecture. On the surface, yes it seem obvious that DeNiro's over-the-top performance compared to the original film aligns itself with the nature of Hot architecture. However, method acting is about truly understanding the character on a personal visceral level. It's about finding every frequency and grey area about a character on a truly empathetic level. Therefore, it seems that the nature of method acting would actually lend itself to more of a "Doppler" understand of all the frequencies of architecture. This can be reinforced with looking at Daniel Day Lewis's method performances, specifically in "Lincoln." His performance in that film explored the quieter intricacies of the 16th President of the U.S. By Somol and Whiting's criteria, his performance (though done with a method technique) would be considered cool. So perhaps it's better to consider the interpretation of the character as a metaphor for hot architecture, and not the style of acting.
