A "Well"-Oiled Machine
Simply a basic formal implication of organization and planning to construct the perfect living machine, "the five points towards a modern architecture" demonstrates an architecture that designs for the process and rigidness of life function. Where do you park your car? How do you cook? Where do you sleep? How does an architecture create control and order in someone's life?
'the primordial instinct of every human being is to assure himself of a shelter. The various classes of workers in society today, no longer have dwellings adapted to their needs; neither the artizan nor the intellectual. It is a question of building which is at the root of social unrest of today: architecture or revolution.’ (Towards a New Architecture)
Corbu is imagining a new City. One with regulations, where work is the center. To control a lack of order. His development of the machine diluted the existence and necessity of experience.
The "Perfect Plan" would create peace. But in reality acknowledge experience beyond they users function. And developing a work centric idealized world focused on the process of the Machine that is the city, removes the inclusion of the user and what they want to experience.
Though Corbu's notion of a function based program was further diluted into a "Form Follows Function" by Louis Sullivan, progressed capitalism programming and function, removing human experience from it's use. It's about the dollar, the selling, the marketing first. Because the function is that of commerce, not that of human use and experience.
