Understanding Architecture
As
a student who is currently pursuing a degree in architecture, I often get asked
the question: "What does architecture mean to me?" It's always a
difficult question to answer. There are so many different interpretations of
the word, and it can mean different things to different people.
For
me, architecture is the process of designing and creating spaces that serve a
specific purpose. Architecture is more than just aesthetics; it's about
functionality and practicality. It's about understanding how people use and
move through space, and how we design to meet those needs. Architecture also has
the ability to be artistic. The ability to create something that is visually
pleasing and that will stand the test of time. It allows us as future
architects to be creative and innovative.
So, what is architecture? Architecture is an art and a science, both in form and function. It's a way of thinking about the world around us as it evolves, and presenting new ideas that become reality.
Architecture does have many different meanings depending on who you're speaking too. To those in the culture the word itself is heavy. We don't look at a building as say that's architecture. We say that architecture when we can look at a building and see it's design. The conscious decisions that were made to solve the issues that were there. So yes I agree, it is a science and so much more. It's constantly changing, moving, and aspiring.
