Architecture will never be perfect
I am always puzzled by this notion of a perfect Utopian world, where everything lives the ideal life, and nothing ever goes south. But architecture is not perfect, nor it will ever be. Compared to other subjects like Math and Science, Architecture will NEVER HAVE an answer or a language to go by. Yes, we can design for the future with technology and put sustainability as the fourth, but we will never have an answer to every social issue. Architecture adapts and evolves with time; it's because of this that we must be conscious of the way we design and be critical of the stances we take when designing.
It's always interesting that no matter the situation we(humans) try to make or have everything be perfect. And as you said, nothing including architecture is ever perfect. But I think by being critical in our design we can create good architecture that functions well for the need at that moment.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very interesting view on critical architecture. I agree with your statement that architecture has no answers, which allows us the freedom to interpret things how we want and design in ways that could have multiple meanings.
ReplyDeleteI agree that architecture will never be perfect. It is a reactionary creation to the current issues and innovations of the time period, always changing. The creation of the utopian world is always an interesting topic that always seems misplaced. It does not seem possible to plan these perfect worlds when we are not aware of what issues may arise in that time period.
