Do what an architect should do

De Carlo take the attitude that we architect “faith in ‘how’ and ignorance about ‘why’”. He thinks that functionalism is form style, however, people's demand is not respected. I cannot judge his opinion is right or wrong. What I want to say is that maybe he gave the architects too much social responsibility. I think we architects are to reach the requirements of the employers who want the design. So to achieve the requirements, we architect faith in ‘how’ is very reasonable. But I’m not saying that we ignore about ‘why’. It’s just because there are millions of architects. Not all of them have the responsibility to put ‘why’ in the first. A normal architect just completes the employers’ demand perfect, then he is a competent architect.
Still need to clarify is that with the reflection of modernism, he emphasized the architect being the role of a humanist. He maintained his way of thinking in spite of being consistent with Team 10’s. He proposed the theory of civil architecture, focused on social care and geographical perspective, which inspire us to understand the publicity an architect should have in urbanization. Thanks to these great architects, the architecture can go forward.
