One thing we can't control

Through architecture, we can control many things. Ventilation, day-lighting, heating/cooling, views, traffic, and sound are just a few of these things. Something that  consistently escapes control of the architect is the human factor. We can attempt to control it - for example, campus facilities taking off the handles of the doors in Lee III. They are trying to force us through only two doors and use the rest as simple egress points. The key word is "attempt" in this case. There is nothing stopping some landscape student from propping open on of the doors on the east side open with a "wet floor" sign, or somebody shifting that rock at the northwest door to hold it open. Architecture makes incredible attempts to shape human interaction and life through the built environment, but the human factor prevails almost every time. (There are some cases, such as ADX Florence, where the built environments controls the human factor and also wages psychological warfare on it's occupants. So it can be done. But that is an extreme case.)

"Oh my god how could he?"
"Somebody call the police!"
"Where is Ja??"
