Service Change
Since architects cannot handle all the problems, think about how to incorporate users into the design process. Therefore, it is necessary to collect and analyze a large amount of information to find out the problems and to elaborate and explain the problems in detail. Then, the outline of architectural planning and design is compiled to find the solution to the problems. One of the most mature methods at present is Problem Seeking. It is also a user-driven design approach.
(1) Establish the goal: Consult with the user, define the goal that the house development and construction realizes and the reason.
(2) collect and analyze information: clear to achieve the target has the conditions and conditions that are not yet available, what are the conditions to be determined.
(3) to reveal and test the concept: a clear user wants to use these methods and means to achieve these goals.
(4) determine the demand: a clear user purchasing power, the size of space required by the user, the duration of the user requirements and housing quality levels. At the same time, important user needs and secondary needs to be distinguished, because users do not usually have sufficient affordability to achieve all the desired performance.
(5) Problem Statement: It is an exhaustive description of all the problems, pointing out the direction of architectural planning and design.
Each of these steps has four basic factors to consider: Functions, Forms, Economy, Industry.
Okay, so I agree that collecting data and communication are important to the design approach. And you've obviously have thought about this a lot with your step by step process. But would you say that that's the only way to successfully incorporate participation?
ReplyDeleteThe images you use really make sense to me. I think lots of people may have the experience with the inconvenience path way. In my undergraduate school, we also have similar things happened on campus. After users created the new road, collage just decided to change it to be a real walking path based on users' experience. So I think the design adjustment after the project done could be another way that can incorporate participation.
