Does architecture allow the architects' or the users' dreams to be realized?

I enjoyed this Tuesday's debate because the whole process led me to think a lot about the two ends of the scale, even I did not participate in discussions.

I can not remember the specific texts, but my thoughts are still alive.

1. Practice VS Theory

Undoubtedly, the architectural theory is very important for the development of architecture. To some extent, it is more like a summary of the past and the expectation for the future. Theory can be a guideline of architectural practice, but it can not replace the position of practice. Architectural practice is very complex, and we need to consider many real issues beyond the theory. In addition, practice is essential to evaluate a theory's success. For me, I prefer the practice based on some theory.

2. Architect's Will VS User's Will

Personally, The duty of architects is to provide more professional solutions based on the user group's will, instead of designing something of their own will. It reminds me of the news about an architecture TV show. A famous architect was invited to design a house for a senior couple who wanted to spend a lifetime of hard work saving on their ideal home. The architect designed a house like a museum with dim light, a narrow walkway, expensive material transported from a distant place. The architecture looks great in some way when you do not know its background. But the couple only wanted to live in a space with bright light and two levels like neighborhood houses. From the video, I can feel the couple's embarrassed emotion when they visit the new home, which cost all their sayings.

Do you want to design a building where the occupancies have some embarrassing smile on their face after visiting the building?
