Giancarlo De Carlo: ‘Architecture’s Public’
I think the reason architecture school styles changes is because changing social values generate new design philosophy. Because social values always change, the school will always change.
The other reason is that architecture is too complex for complete understanding. As humans, when something has tons of inputs, we developed a "style" of handling these things. Just as each person has their own way of living, each school, and school over time has its own way of teaching, and that's not a bad thing. There is no right way. A style is a way of production based on values, effectiveness, experience, awareness, resources, etc. Again, it's too complex to simplify well.
How does one develop a good style?
Maybe with good feedback mechanisms that create well-informed updates and progress. I'm not sure
Architecture school style changes, and I agree it does reflect on society and what is happening in the world. However, some schools are grounded and unwavering on their methods, ways of teaching, and what style they choose to design and teach with. Some schools are known specifically for this intense focus on specific styles.
