Apartments - they're like a bunch of small houses stacked on top of each other instead of spread out
Urban sprawl is a subject we talk of often in academia. It creates a variety of problems both socially and environmentally. One question we have to ask ourselves is what has become unattractive about the urban environment that makes people want to get away from it. By answering this question, we may find more clarity than in the constant discussion and critique of suburban developments. It seems that the urban environment falls short in metrics that make people want to live in a suburban or even rural environment. The most interesting phenomena was seen during covid when lockdowns caused people to no longer have access to outdoor space and even have difficulty obtaining food because of the strict rules and regulations. So how do we make the urban environment more appealing?
Scurry,
ReplyDeleteWe also saw during covid plenty of people discovering the skill of gardening. I don't know if something like gardening can be folded into apartment building design to encourage people to keep up the good habit of supplying some of their own food. Gardening is good too for the environment, especially for reducing shipping.
