Wheres the starchitect when we need them
While it is tempting to look back nostalgically on the era of "starchitects" and their flashy signature buildings, it's important to recognize the limitations of this approach. In many cases, the cult of the celebrity architect has overshadowed the true purpose of architecture: to serve the needs of people and the communities they inhabit. Furthermore, the focus on singular iconic buildings has often neglected the importance of context and sustainability, resulting in buildings that are impressive in isolation but fail to enhance their surroundings or promote a more sustainable future. Instead, we need to prioritize a more collaborative and socially responsible approach to architecture, one that values inclusivity, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. While there will always be a place for visionary and innovative architects, their work should be grounded in a commitment to serving the public good and the greater good of society.
