City to Suburban
week 14
City to Suburban
The relationship between economics and architecture is inseparable, as income and location greatly influence the design of communities and buildings. Over the last 50 years, this has led to the rise of Suburban America and gated communities. While these communities provide better living areas and security for families, one must question whether they are creating an isolation from the real social problems of the world? On the other hand, cities like New York have become a melting pot of different communities that work together as one. Despite being one of the most populated cities in the world, they have effectively utilized transportation systems like trains, buses, and bikes to create functional ways to travel within the city. While city life may not be for everyone, it has proven to be effective. At the end of the day, where we live is not always a matter of choice but more often a reflection of the community we belong to, which ultimately shapes our future. Whether we choose to live in Suburban America, community row areas, or even in the projects, it is important to understand the impact our surroundings have on our lives.
