BIG & TALL


"Blade Runner" and Koolhaas's "Bigness" acknowledge the impact of what megastructures on the urban landscape might pose in the future. While the film features megastructures and pyramid-like structures that dominate the sky, they also represent a futuristic society. Koolhaas's "Bigness" talks about how these megastructures need to adapt to the scale of such a structure. A comparison for example is scale and urban dominance which Koolhaas explains how these type of structure define the elements of the cityscape and Blade Runner showcases these that further contributes the movies dystopian urban setting. Another example would be the impacts of the human experience. Koolhaas suggests that Bigness sways the human experience and how we interact with these large massing and intense program of megastructure and Blade Runner shapes the experience within the film with the consequences of an advanced society.
