On/Off

 I found the Studio Bow-Wow article, Made in Tokyo, to mitigate, or more directly address the duplicities that appear in Koolhaas's congestion. Permutations of "on-ness" and "off-ness" in 3 categories, category, structure, and use, provide a framework for their retroactive manifesto. When faced with complexity, architects simply have to decide what is, or should be, on or off. However, more interesting to me is how architects deal with the off-off-off. What should we turn (back) on? Does at least one category have to be "on" in order to "unite" others that are at odds? And in the case of Koolhaas, can the dispersion of "Bigness" be reunited with an urban fabric by flipping a switch to "on"?
