Regional Renzo
"[Critical Regionalism] mediates the impact of the universal civilization with elements derived indirectly from the peculiarities of a particular place."
The idea of critical regionalism is to recapture the lost sense of place that has been endangered as a result of globalization.
The question I have is about the duality of regionalism and globalization. Is it possible for a global firm (such as Renzo Piano Building Workshop) to practice regionalism?

The two examples I have pulled, Parc de la Musica in Rome and The Cultural Center in Noumea, to me seem to capture the essence of the region. Parc de la Musica responds to place in that it accomplishes the ideas related to traditional Roman architecture without making a traditionally Roman building. The large, monolithic auditorium buildings form an amphitheater for gathering and entertainment.
Perhaps the Cultural Center is a better example of critical regionalism, it is in a peripheral region of the world. So, did Renzo Piano accomplish an architecture that can be considered critical regionalism in his global office?
