Envelope schemvelope

Why are we so ready to lay down and accept the fate thats handed to us? It seems that many of my colleagues have already given up on the very reason we came to this school. They have laid down and accepted whatever the world is willing to relinquish… for them its getting cold and dark, their breathing is slowing to a stop, no fight, they have given up.  Did we come here to design envelopes and draw nice wall sections? Are we studying and killing ourselves just to be a cog in the machine that keeps water out of buildings. Thats not what I'm looking for, thats for sure. I came here with big eyes and the opinion that architects can change the built environment, both interior and exterior. Change lives, change the way in which people live, even change even the way people think about space and light and the beauty they can have together. Architects are extremely powerful professionals when they have the ambition and talent. If we resign ourselves to the envelope its like saying we don't care what happens inside our buildings, we are powerless to do anything impactful on interior space. It doesn't make sense to me… any and all of the architects we, or at least I, look up to and strive to be somewhat like make powerful and memorable envelopes, but do not at that point simply pass off the design. They stick it out and make panty-dropping interior spaces as well. Spaces we see even every day basics taking selfies in and appreciating… not just us design nerds. Sure interior designers can make interior spaces, but what about holistic design? They aren't in our heads, they don't understand the train of thought. There is no way I would design an amazing facade and then expect it to be seamlessly translated onto the interior spaces in a way that makes any sense by another design team. These architectural greats make spaces so special that they are protected… lets be like them. So i say…for those of you who are willing I say we fight , we take whats ours, we design the entirety of the building, change the direction of the profession, change opinions, change lives, and lastly never stop chasing the dream.
