Problem solvers
“Architects are given a gift of second sight and when we see
something that others can’t we should act, and we shouldn’t wait for decisions
to be made by politicians or multinational corporations. - We need to
understand that when a decision is made, a position has already been taken.
Architects should not be consigned to only problem-solving after the fact.”
Samuel Mockbee’s approach to his rural studio goes to show how
the process of learning through construction with real clients have shaped this
amazing program at Auburn University. What is interesting is the studio’s
involvement with the community and families in need. What I have learned
through work and my education at Clemson University is that, we as architects,
as participants and makers of the built environment have an ethical responsible
to the community and the environment. Having this great power allows us to
rethink and reshape the world we live in. Architects are far more than
designers of buildings, we are problem solvers and with the right intentions
and the right technology can reshape the world we live in.
