capitalist architecture vs. critical regionalism and the influence social media and technology is having on society.
flashy architecture has been used as a tool to drive the market at a metropolitan level but in doing so we continue to lose our cultural and historical values of space/place. I have been really disturbed for a very long time with the Calatrava Transit Hub project in New York City. It was my a couple of years ago and it was my first time visiting the 911 memorial site. I was so shocked that something so overwhelming would sit so close to such an important monument. It takes away from emotional connection Americans, and tourist will no longer have with the site because they will continue to be distracted by this pearl white piece of architecture. I'm not saying that architecture has to always relate to it's context every single time but considering the proximity to the memorial, in my opinion is unacceptable.
