Is "Social Justice" Truly Possible?
Is "social justice" truly possible?
Being born and raised in South Carolina, I grew up surrounded by a conservative group of people. I was raised by my very hardworking parents and I will admit I was given many advantages in my upbringing. I was told that if I work hard in life, I will be successful. That the sky is the limit. As I have grown and matured, I have learned that is not always the case. I have lived in other places around the world and have seen that the world isn't fair, period. I like to think of myself as more liberal than most in the conservative south, but I still question whether or not we can create a world that is completely equal. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a world where everyone is treated and valued equally, but can it actually be done? History is littered with events and periods that show how the human race has punished and treated one another terribly and whenever we seem to scratch the surface on some sort of equality we find ourselves repeating history. Our current country's situation is something that comes to mind. That being said, even if we cannot ever achieve social justice does that mean we shouldn't try? How can we create spaces that are for everyone, or better yet how can we create spaces that everyone will want to go to together?
