Is Too Much of a Good Thing Bad?
New York City and the development of
the skyscraper was revolutionary for its time, allowing for large amounts of
people to live in such a small area. As time went on, other cities utilizing
the skyscraper were created and expanded. With technology expanding,
skyscrapers and cities keep pushing the limits. But is pushing these limits
really beneficial? As an example, China’s population is growing at an almost
exponential rate and cities are barely able to keep up with the demand.
Construction techniques and technology have allowed for these steel towers to
be constructed at a fast rate but at what cost? Bringing these large
populations into small condensed areas have heavily increased pollution to
these areas due to the intense amounts of car and industry within the area.
With this being the case, people in the city have to wear masks over their
faces because the air in the city is barely breathable. It seems that creating
this kind of environment could potentially bring more harm to the people living
there than good.
