Who determines the junkspaces?
“Fascism without dictator.”
One of the most interesting points
Koolhass touches in the text "Junkspaces" is how the system leads
societies to excessive consumerism. During
the 1960's, the Italian author and philosopher Pier Paolo Pasoline believed
that today we live in the worst dictatorship system ever in the history of
humanity. Pasoline believed that in the
past, society knew who was responsible for the impositions: dictators, kings,
or emperors. Therefore, society could
target their efforts to effect change.
Today, in capitalist societies, whenever there is an ideology that works
against societal norms, the ideology metamorphoses into just another merchandising
scheme to make profit for the system, and another junkspace. An example is Che Guevara's image being
printed on T-shirts.
