The 3 Ecologies and Project Agronica

In this week’s lecture, we talked about Felix Guattori who has the theory of the three ecologies which are mental ecology, social ecology, and environmental ecology. His theory is based on the idea that each system is integrated and cannot be separated from one another. Each system is affected by the other and has an influence on the others. Our ideas are part of a larger environment and have a relationship to our ideas. It is these ecologies and systems that we should consider when designing as they affect us and what we design affects them. We constantly have influence from our social, mental, and environmental systems that we are a part of in design whether we are aware of it or not. An example of these systems and ideas overlapping is Project Agronica which has the goal to combine the artificial with the natural and bring cities into nature while preserving nature and submersing those cities.
