The Phenomenological Architecture for the American
The work and theory of Philippe Rahm in building “sensual exchanges between body and space” propose a solution for architects who lack the legacy and expertise of construction and details available to architects like Zumthor in creating phenomenological architecture. For Zumthor and Scarpa, the context allows them to pay attention to detail, which creates a sensual experience. However, architects, particularly in the American context, do not have the same expertise available to us when it comes to construction. Rahm’s approach to integrating technology with design to create the phenomenological could be a solution. Rahm is able to create a sensual experience of space through simplistic design that we could use to create more sustainable and “smart” architecture that still provides a comfortable and memorable experience for the user.
