Society of ??? Space

I think the discussion of informal space within the urban landscape is an intriguing topic of discussion for our modern-day society.  Informal space is vital to a city because as Jeffrey Hou puts it, it provides a forum for open discussion. Whether we want to admit it or not, our society today is become less and less social - at least outwardly. However, if you consider social media a forum for open discussion - which I think we should - one could argue that our society is just as social as ever.
In my mind, both types of public space are important for the advancement of society. Like other things, architecture must also adapt to the transformation of the physical world to the digital. I don't necessarily think one type of public space is better than the other. It's not a matter of good or evil. Its just two different avenues for the same thing.
