Olympic Sculpture Park – Shaping and Evolving Landscape.
Walking
through the Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle it is very easy for one to forget
that you are in such a dense city, the constant landmarks that you encounter in
your experience reminds you that you are within the city limits and not just
some hike path outside the city. It is said that over the last 10 years since
the park has opened the landscape has flourished and thickened around the
planned architecture and sculptures. This park was developed over an existing
toxic unused edge of the city with rail roads and industrial brown field. This
intervention of nature has encouraged wildlife to return to the city too. As a
landscape for art this park is definitely a unique experience for appreciating
art outside the museum walls. The open ended form and nature of this
architecture can be interpreted in different ways. Having visited it more than
2-3 times now I felt each experience was unique and different. Sometimes it can
be overwhelming and tiring other times it can just be calming. If only each
city could have such a magical edge!!
