Sustainability and Place
My whole life I was used to living in a place where natural ventilation was crucial and mechanical systems were only used in extreme cases of hot temperatures. In general, the majority of the people would rely on passive systems to be comfortable in their houses. When I got to Miami, I was shocked to know that opening windows was not a thing there because of the humidity level. I know this seems silly, but for me, it was quite appalling. Then was when I realized that for an architect to be able to move around places and build in different areas is a challenge that means a lot of research and analysis. Techniques that are sustainable somewhere may be the complete opposite on another place. And even when we are knowledgeable of this, I believe it to be a big challenge. Knowing that you have to do it not always means you will do it right like we see it happen in so many buildings around the world.
