Build Better

According to Earth Charter sustainability is “founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace.” This can be broken up into three categories, Environmental protection, Social responsibility, and Economic practice. So maybe if we wanted to protect the environment we can stop building. I understand that there will always be a want for land, but is it always necessary? There are plenty of abandoned structures that can be reclaimed. However, its not realistic to completely stop construction; it is possible to build smarter. It should not be about the how sustainable a building is, but also how sustainable it was to make build it. Using local materials, renewable resources, and sustainable technologies can greatly affect the environment.
