Is it bad to experiment?

Mostfavi mentions in his article that scarce resources is an opportunity for innovative design, and later says the biggest challenge in ecological urbanism is defining the governance under which it operates.

Is is bad to experiment?

Should we as architects focus our actions on innovative design such as biomimicry or examples we seen last class such as creating buildings with fake trees and putting fancy hats on waste water treatment facilities. Essentially tossing resources at it until we get it right. Or, should we focus our actions on using what we know and our standing in society to help shape regulatory policies regarding our consumption of energy and resources??

  1. I think we should focus on actually saving and the use of renewable products and not waste resources in trying to reproduce fake trees that the only thing that they do is poorly mimic nature and create a less effective interpretation.
