Being a Homeowner
From Keats’s view, the American dream just became the new American nightmare, there are plenty of problems appear in the suburbs. But we should admit that there are also lots of problems happened in the city. I grow up in a big city in China and lived in the condo since I was three or four. Although it changed from a one bedroom condo to two bedrooms and now a three bedrooms larger space, there still do not have the porch, backyard or lawn space. As a city kid, I lose some fun in my childhood.
This might due to the different situation in China. People reside in cities cannot buy land, they can only choose the condo, townhouse or house to buy, own it for 70 years. And those are all designed and built by the property developers. What people pay for is the ownership of this 70 years. Until now, we still don’t know what will happen after that. So most people in China will not buy a house in the suburbs. I believe if they can, many people will dream to become a homeowner in the suburbs. No matter where it is, there are still some people tired of the busy life in the city. They chose to move to the suburbs and enjoy the isolation better than the crowded urban condition.
