Envelope at Atmosphere

"Quality architecture moves me- creating a spontaneous emotional response." - Peter Zumthor

I understand that today, we are trying to create buildings that are less dependent on machines and systems and that more or less control their atmospheres on their own. This is a direct reflection on the world's current sustainability craze: trying to reduce dependence on fossil fuels for maintaining our pristine interior atmospheres we live in today. Our perspectives on "good architecture" have become based solely on performance, as many of my peers have already mentioned.

Performance is only one factor to measure good architecture from though. REALLY GOOD architecture that is recognized for generations and generations does more than that. It evokes an emotional response. It appeals to the senses, pulls in natural light, and engages a natural material palette. Look at world-wide recognized architecture today- even the work that has been recognized for hundreds of years. Good architecture makes you feel something.
