Is Constant Change Good?
Everyday life for most is a daily
routine that repeat for years and years with an occasional hiccup that throws
things off. Architects provide people facilities that they interact with during
their daily schedules. So in order for the mundane routine to become less
repetitive and more exciting, what needs to happen? In the book “Looking for
Los Angeles,” the authors speak of how Los Angeles is the city of the future
due to its constant change of tearing itself down and rebuilding something new
in its place, creating as they claim a greater sense of bonding. The city does
contain an active lifestyle that, from a brief glance that I have experienced,
seems to always have something exciting going on and there always seems to be
life at any parts of the day. But how much does the design of the city’s
architecture really play into this “perfect city?” While constant change does allow
for new experiences more consistently, I feel like the city could lose a sense
of identity if it is always changing. But maybe people within the city are the
ones that define it rather than the physical fabric of the city itself.
